Managing Fair Value Report Templates

Intro

The “Fair Value Reports” page is used to simplify the setup of a fair value disclosure table typically found within the semi-annual or annual reports. The disclosure builder assists you in setting up the basics. From there, you can opt to edit the template’s settings in an advanced mode to more specifically adhere to your output style needs.

Tasks

    1. Expand the ArcReporting “Disclosure Builder” .

      1. Click the “Home” button at the top of the application window to return to the landing page.

      2. Select “ArcReporting” from the .

      3. Click the “Administration” at lower-left of the screen.

      4. Click the “Disclosure Builder” menu to view available items.

    2. Click the “Fair Value Reports” item.

    3. Click the “Add” button at lower-right of the page.

    4. Complete the questions found in the “Detail” at right of the newly-created template.
      1. Select the complex for which the template will be used.
      2. Provide the template with a name.

      3. Choose the output style type.

        This value is not required.

      4. Define the category structure.

        1. Select at least one category type using the corresponding drop-down list(s).
      5. Specify the column header captions in the corresponding text boxes.

    5. Click the “Save” button at lower-right of the page.

    • You can specify more advanced settings for the fair value report by clicking the “Advanced Setup/Maintenance” link at lower-right of the “Fair Value Reports” page.

      Clicking the link removes the template from the Fair Value Reports environment and converts it to a regular portfolio statement template. Consequently, the report no longer displays in the listing grid of the “Fair Value Reports” page. Instead, it is available among other templates in the listing grid of the “Portfolio Statement Templates” page. In that environment, you can edit the template and associated output settings like any other portfolio statement template.

    • Output settings associated with “simple” fair value disclosure templates are not accessible nor editable by users. Default output settings are automatically specified for new fair value disclosure templates.

      • Five are available for mapping, which are populated with one or more elements, based on node type.

        • “Column Header” node

          • “Column 2”: “<Column Header 1>”
          • “Column 3: “<Column Header 2>”
          • “Column 4”: “<Column Header 3>”
          • “Column 5”: “<Value Header>”

        • “Fair Value Type” Group node

          • “Column 1”: “<Caption>:”

        • “Category” header node (applies to each “Category Type” specified for the statement template; this could be one, two or three different categories)

          • “Column 1”: “<Caption><Market Value Level Unknown>”

            • The “<Market Value Level Unknown>” element has a “Zero Display” selection of “Blank”.
          • “Column 2”: “<Market Value Level 1>”
          • “Column 3”: “<Market Value Level 2>”
          • “Column 4”: “<Market Value Level 3>”
          • “Column 5”: “<Market Value>”

        • Mapped item formatting.

          • All numeric elements have the following settings applied.

            • “Format” = “n.nn”
            • “Zero Display” = “Em Dash (—)” (except where noted above)
            • “Negative Display” = “Parentheses... (123456.78)”

        • Line suppression.

          • Each category total node is set to “Suppress category total if single item is displayed”.

    • A fair value report template pulls footed values from the fund’s primary portfolio statement. Therefore, you must add the “Fair Value” column to the “Calculations” tab of the “Portfolio Statement Templates” page for the fund’s primary statement.

    • To for a fair value report, its template must be added to a project template and viewed via “Components” tab of the “Project” page.
      • Fair value reports display in the listing with other portfolio statement templates. Therefore, a portfolio statement item must be added to a document structure to assign a fair value report.
      • The “Fair Value Type” column in the data grid of the “Fund Holdings” page must be set to “Asset” or “Liability” for the template to display properly.

      • Security values display in the table based on the “Fair Value Level” specified in the data grid on the “Holdings” tab of the “Fund Holdings” page.

        All securities without a “Fair Value Level” are grouped together and the value displays beside the category caption in project preview/output. This serves to alert you that one or more securities don’t have a “Fair Value Level” specified.

      • Below is a sample preview of the standard fair value table. Note that a value displays next to the “Common Stocks” line item. This represents the value of all the securities without a fair value level. The sum of the four values is reflected in the “Total” column.

    3. Select the desired item from the “Listing” pane at left of the page.

    4. Click the “Advanced Setup/Maintenance” link at lower-right of the page.

      1. Click the “Accept” button at lower-right of the dialogue to convert the fair value report to a regular portfolio statement template.
      2. Click the “Cancel” button at lower-right of the dialogue to cancel the action.
    • Enabling advanced setup features for a template and removing it from the Fair Value Reports environment is irreversible.
    • Once a fair value report is converted to enable advanced setup and maintenance, the report no longer displays in the listing grid of the “Fair Value Reports” page. Instead, it is available among other templates in the listing grid of the “Portfolio Statement Templates” page. In that environment, you can edit the template and associated output settings like any other portfolio statement template.
